Siddhānta — the theory
N eptune is the second modern planet — the mystic ocean, dissolution and dream. Master E.K. writes that Neptune “does not come under a planet”: it is the soul of our solar Logos, the centre of the musical hierarchy that trains whole solar systems through sound. Before we open the two lenses, hold one image: a mist that softens every edge, the longing to dissolve into something vast.

Indra is king of the devas and drinker of soma — the ecstatic lord of the rain-bearing heavens. Master E.K. reads Neptune as the ray of rapture (paravaśatva): the dissolving bliss in which the separate self is drowned — devotion, dream, and the intoxication that loosens every edge.
Neptune loosens the hard outline of ‘I.’ Its gift is devotion and compassion — the self learning to dissolve into the whole it came from; its danger is the flight from the real into glamour and intoxication. To work with Indra is to let the boundaries soften toward love, without drowning the world in dream.

There is a further reading of Indra that belongs to almost no one — and to that reason it must be handled with the greatest care. Beyond its work upon the age, Indra carries the dissolving of the separate mind — the drawing-near of the unseen worlds. But it acts on a single life only where the inner turn toward the loosening of the separate mind (mano-laya) has already begun — in perhaps half of all lives it never stirs at all. Where it does — and where it is touched by a trine of the Sun, the Moon or Venus — it may open a door most charts never reach.
It can open clairvoyance and clairaudience — the sight and hearing of what is far off; the sudden vision of distant events; the sense of a deity or a teacher overshadowing the mind and speaking through it; the travel of the subtle body in sleep, with knowledge carried back. The unseen worlds draw near.
Crossed by hard rays the same door opens the wrong way — collapse and the loss of ordinary consciousness, oppressive dreams, the delusion of being divine, a mind flooded and unmoored. The counsel is a steady discipline and a true teacher.
